Bridgestone Park
Bridgestone Park
Spring, TX 2025
A new 14-acre park for Bridgestone Municipal Utility District near Spring, Texas transformed a low-lying, flood prone, monoculture site into a vibrant community destination designed to promote well-being, fitness, and engagement with nature. Focused on water and recreation, two multi-use pavilions with event spaces, restrooms, and storage are located along a 150 - foot boardwalk and lake overlook. The pavilions are a modern take on classic A-Frame cabins and barbecue joints common around the lakes of southeast Texas, asymmetrically skewed towards activity areas.
The pavilions offer shade, activity space for public or private gatherings, and connection to the boardwalk, lake, activity lawn, and accessible playgrounds for children of all ages and abilities. Structured with durable, recyclable steel, V-shaped columns and beams form a procession along the east - west boardwalk, focusing views and breezes from south to north over the lake.
Water and habitat conservation in the landscape is primary, with the new lake created to retain water and alleviate flooding. Aquatic habitats are submerged in the lake basin, with bubblers for aeration to provide a home for frogs, turtles and fish. Sustainable landscaping also includes rain gardens and the strategic salvaging and relocation of 47 native trees, including including a 100-year-old oak and multiple large Mexican Sycamores. The park now boasts a total of 923 trees of 14 different species, promoting biodiversity and resilience.
